WHAT IT SAYS
THE FAIR HIRING PLEDGE
We commit to being a positive influence and leading change agent in Hong Kong by supporting conscious and ethical hiring practices of migrant domestic workers.
We acknowledge the important role migrant domestic workers play in the lives of families and support a harmonious society which protects domestic workers and their employers.
By signing the Fair Hiring Pledge, we enable our employees to be part of the solution. We will provide learning opportunities for our company employees to deepen their understanding of ethical hiring practices. In turn, we expect our employees to be ethical employers committed to Fair Hiring and fulfilling their contractual obligations.
WHAT IT IS
The Fair Hiring Pledge was launched in November 2016 with seven leading multinational companies as the inaugural signatories, including Barclays, Harvey Nash, Hasbro, KPMG, Macquarie, Shangri-La, and Thomson Reuters.
It is an agreement between companies and the public stating that management expects their employees to hire domestic workers fairly.
What does it mean to hire fairly? It all starts with following the law.
We believe that following existing laws in Hong Kong will lead to the best outcomes. Unfortunately, many employers unknowingly work with agencies that conduct illegal practices. The pledge defines Fair Hiring simply as following the Hong Kong Employment Ordinance and other laws that apply to employers of migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong.
The Fair Employment Foundation maintains political neutrality and support a properly functioning system in Hong Kong. We identify market-based solutions that benefit domestic workers and their employers.
